Role:

UX/UI Designer

A banking app for teenagers designed to teach smart money management – how to save, plan a budget, and understand basic banking concepts. The app prepares users for real life in a friendly, innovative, and accessible way.

01 THE CHALLENGE

Most teenagers do not receive proper guidance about money management, either at home or at school. They tend to spend small amounts easily, save only when the amount is large, and rarely track their expenses in a structured way. Many want to be more financially independent and less dependent on their parents, but lack simple tools and knowledge for managing money, budgeting, and saving.

Most teenagers do not receive structured guidance on saving, budgeting, interest, and expenses, either at home or at school, which leads to unwise financial decisions and sometimes habits that can create difficulties later on. Additionally, most existing banking services are designed for adults and are not tailored to the needs and language of young users, reducing their motivation to explore the world of money, understand financial concepts, and actively learn money management.

Competitor Research Israeli Banks

Financial education apps for children and teenagers provide an interactive and playful way to learn about money. They include challenges, videos, quizzes, and financial tasks for the child to complete, while parents can track progress and assign tasks. Some apps allow parents and children to open accounts with digital and physical cards for use and top-ups, offering monitoring of savings, expenses, payments, and allowance. Through these platforms, children are exposed to financial concepts, can set savings goals, and track their progress, while parents can send money and receive notifications about their child’s activity

Researching competitorsfor youth apps

In Israel, all major banks offer youth accounts with similar benefits. Bank Hapoalim, Bank Discount, Bank Leumi, and Mizrahi Tefahot Bank provide youth accounts starting from ages 14-16, with no management fees, basic transaction exemptions, a debit card, and withdrawal limits.

04 Research conclusions

Lack of an age-appropriateuser experience

Most existing banking services are designed for adults and do not speak to a younger audience, which reduces teenagers’ motivation to explore the world of money, understand it, and learn about it the context and background.

Learning by doing

The apps promote learning through play and hands-on activities, with challenges, financial tasks, and savings tracking, giving children practical experience and understanding of money management

There is only thchnical info

In Israel, teenagers mainly receive technical information about money, without structured education on saving, budgeting, and managing expenses, which makes it harder for them to make smart financial decisions.

Teenagers don’t understand money well enough

Teenagers do not receive structured education about saving, budgeting, interest, and household or school expenses.
This leads to poor financial decisions at a young age, and sometimes to habits that can create difficulties in the future.

This screen displays the user’s credit cards alongside gift cards. Since teenagers often receive many gift cards, they can be added to the app and redeemed directly through it.

In addition, based on research, teenagers also use debit cards, so the screen allows them to view recent transactions and credits, as well as information about weekly spending, last month’s expenses, and the total value of received gifts.
